PLASTIKOS

Plastic started as the symbol of modernization, as the indestructible miracle-material. But in time, it became a symbol of our throw-away society. A system in which we continue to produce, use and throw away. It’s all around us, and it doesn’t perish.  We eat, drink and breathe in 5 grams of plastic each week. That’s the weight of one debit card.

I think we are far from finished talking about the increasingly urgent problems of the throw-away society. How is it that we continue to look away from this? And more importantly, how do we get rid of it? As a jewelry designer, what can I do to contribute to this?

With my collection of jewellery made of plastic cards, I want to let people consciously experience what we actually do all day long. How easily we purchase plastic products and get rid of them. The purpose of my jewelry is to avoid these temptations and change our buying behaviour. I believe that if we are conscious of the materials around us and realize that the supply is limited, we can do a lot for real change.
